A graduate of Johns Hopkins University and Brooklyn Law School, Michael's commitment to students' education rights began in a middle school classroom in the South Bronx where he served as a Teach for America corps member. Upon graduating law school, Michael received an Equal Justice Works Fellowship to implement a legal services project of his own design at the Children's Law Center. During this time, Michael worked to protect the educational rights of children embroiled in New York City family court proceedings by providing special education advocacy, family court representation, and disciplinary hearing representation for hundreds of New York City's kids. Thereafter, Michael spent a year as a staff attorney at the New York City Department of Education's Office of the General Counsel where he litigated and resolved special education lawsuits. Michael is currently an adjunct professor of law at Brooklyn Law School.
